A fantastic time was had at Fingal Bay, lunch at Mavericks, Nelson Bay, Shoal Bay and a stunning 4wd along 36klm of Stockton Beach, we entered at Birubi Beach and exit off Lavis lane. Very deep sand at times, however the driver handled it well!!
The shipwreck is MV Sygna, was on her maiden voyage, at the helm was Captain James Phillip. There was a severe storm approaching, the ship was told to go out to sea an anchor. (May 1974). The Sygna didn't do as instructed and was turned parallel to the beach and 30 minutes later it was dumped on the fore shore.
We took a drive to catch Stockton ferry over to Newcastle foreshore and did a long walk to Nobby's surf club (beach closed due to shark), walked up to the light house, saw Dolphin's, a shark & jelly fish.
We walked back along the foreshore to the honeysuckle precinct and had lunch and beers at the honey suckle pub which was overlooking the Newcastle harbour. We took the ferry back and drive over Stockton Bridge and look at the docks & coal pile.
