The World, as Charters Towers is affectionately known as, is a scenic gold mining city. From a chance discovery of gold in 1871 by a young Aboriginal horse boy Jupiter Mosman. In its heyday it was the 2nd largest city in Queensland. In its heyday it had its own stock exchange.
The population is about 12,500 over a land area of 68,388 sq kms. Charters Tower region is approximately the size of Tasmania.

Charters Towers is known as The World, as it was believed that anything you ever wanted, could be found here. We loved this town and surrounding area, Cattle & Horse country.
