Cooktown to Mareeba. QLD.

We stayed for 5 nights in Cooktown over Christmas, the first 3 days were glorious, Steve & Glen had a morning fishing, we went to the market, had fish &chips on the foreshore, had an evening listening to a band, swam in the pool, visited the RSL & The Top pub. Christmas eve Jane & Glen treated us to a lovely Christmas meal, on the balcony of the Sovereign Resort, when the rain began at 8pm. To say we had torrential rain on Christmas day is an under statement, we set up in the camp kitchen, however due to the swirling winds, we still needed umbrella's!

I love these colours & the water droplets.

The tropical storm begins.

Christmas day breakfast.

Owen won't give up - still causing us problems.

The neighbours are getting a lot of water.

Santa clause paddling in his tent.

The Little Annan River.

We were delayed leaving Cook town, the flood water had dropped, there was still a tree trunk across the road.

Rapid, Roaring River!

Contrasting colours.

Cloudy & Wet day - Byers Range.

Fire's & Flood's.

Water falls on the ranges.

Mcleod River - Mulligan Highway.

4WD were still good to go!

It is still rising.

Waiting for the Mcleod River to drop.

We had a free camp for the night.

Glen & Jane in front of flood waters.

It's still rising.

We were on the prettiest side of the flood waters.

The Mcleod River peaked at 1.1 metre.

Water spreading everywhere.

Flood Party.

After a sleepless night, we cross at 0530.

Jane & Glen are crossing.

At the deepest point.

Yes over the worst now.

They made it.

We headed to Mareeba, for our next stop over. We arrived at the visitor information centre for 0730 and had breakfast, whilst we waited for them to open.
