Canada Tour. Dawson Creek to Prince George. (Approx 404 klm),

We visited the tourist information centre to check on routes as travelling to fire areas, the museum & Art Gallery.
It was sad to leave Dawson Creek behind, as it had a great feel to the town and was a great 'Outback town' as we know them.We pass over Pine River and many bridges, the scenery was spectacular. The town of Chetwynd appears with so many wooden statues, it was amazing. Logging is all around us. Trees and waterfalls keep the topography rolling along. McLeod Lake, followed by Bear Lake and Summit Lake and we swiftly arrive into Prince George.

Canada Tour. Edmonton - Dawson Creek. (Approx 630 klm drive).

Blimey very cold this morning, about 10 degrees. We depart Edmonton and head North-West, on the Alaska Highway.
Facts about the Alaska Highway-
- It's 1,523 miles or 2,450 km from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks.
- It has 133 Bridges. ( I took pictures of most of them!) lol!!
- It took 8 months & 12 Days to construct.
- It took 11,000 U.S troops & 16,000 American & Canadian Civilian's.
- It took 7,000 pieces of equipment.
- Opened to the public in 1948.

We had some heavy rain just after Edmonton, however the sky's cleared and the day warmed up to 25 degrees. Lunch at Whitecourt. Continued North West to Grande Prairie and on to Dawson Creek.
As we travelled we entered The Cree Nation, not sure if we are still in it.

Canada Tour. Claresholm - Edmonton (Approx 430 klm )

Michelle cooked us fluffy pancakes, which we had with Maple syrup for breakfast. It was a great way to finish our time with this fabulous family, lets hope its not another 32 years before we catch up.
We depart Claresholm to Edmonton and made really good time, except actually getting right in the city centre, we had several attempts from all different angels, eventually we made it to our hotel, 'The Sutton Place'  on 101 street, which was very nice. Edmonton has the largest North American shopping mall.

Canada Tour. Calgary to Claresholm (Alberta) (Approx 280 klm)

Took a steady drive from Calgary to Claresholm. It was pretty tricky getting out of Calgary as we just couldn't find any signs for Route 2 South. Eventually made it through Okotoks, High River, Stavely and to Claresholm. Found Pinky in town and it was very exciting for Pinky & Steve to meet up after 32 years. Meant with Pinkys wife Michelle, daughter Jeani and son Aiden. (A beautiful family).
Lots of stories were told of the old Army days. We had a BBQ on the deck with 'The Pinkertons' and their friends. A few beers were drunk and bed time for the boys was 3am. We also had a great out door fire. Temp today about 28.

The following day we sat on the deck outside, enjoying the sunshine, until the boys looked a bit better.  Steve & I took a drive further south to Fort Macleod, to the museum of the North-West Mounted Police.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are one of Canada's most recognized symbols. The mounted police were created in 1873, when Canadian Prime Minister John. A. MacDonald, proposed to the house of commons that a police force be established to bring order to the Canadian West.  The men built their first post on an island on the Oldman River and named it after the man that led them, Colonel James. F. Macleod.

We stayed to see the musical ride. One of the first NWMP riding demonstrations took place in Fort Macleod in 1876. The musical ride continues in the months of July & August. We were able to visit the horses and give them some treats after their hard work. A great afternoon out.

Pinky let Steve have a drive in his fantastic car.  After that Pinky & Michelle had friends over, whom went to the Golf Club with us for a meal, on the decking. Followed by a Fluffy takeaway. A great day with excellent company.
